Summer Reading
Parents,
We are pleased to inform you that your child has been enrolled in the SMaRT summer tutorial program. Through this internet based program your child will have access to tutorials in both reading and math. The tutorials cover concepts and skills that were learned during this school year. In addition, the tutorials will introduce your child to new concepts and skills that they will learn during the upcoming school year.
Some students lose as much as two months of grade level equivalence over the summer. The SMaRT tutorials can help your child retain what they have learned this year. There are six math and six reading tutorials and each one will take approximately forty minutes to complete. They are available fromMay 28, 2012throughJuly 20, 2012.
Students that complete at least 200 minutes in reading and 200 minutes in math will be invited to attend a special pizza party when they return to school in the fall and will be entered in a drawing for gift cards to some of their favorite stores.
All students have had the opportunity to practice logging into the SMaRT tutorials in their reading classes. From home they may access the tutorials by navigating to the BEEP Student Portal from our MargateMiddle SchoolWeb-site. Once in BEEP they will select the Destinations button from the Student Portal home page. Students type their 10 digit student ID number in the username field and their four digit school location number in the password field – click below for full instructions.
Have a wonderful summer!

Each child should read a minimum of two books. One from list A and one from list B. Books should be selected from the grade-level list the student will be entering this fall. If quantities are limited, librarians and bookstore personnel can recommend other titles written by the same author. Even though two books are required, students are encouraged to read as many books as possible.
